FRENCH EXPRESSIONS WITH FAIRE
If you are a student or teacher of French, then you will know that verbs are extremely important. The verb Faire which means to do or to make is one of the most important verbs in French.
I consider it to be so important as to be part of the French Verbal Royal Family!
IS IT REGULAR OR IRREGULAR?
Like most of the important verbs in French, it is irregular.
Present | Passé Composé | Imperfect | Future | Conditional | Subjunctive |
Je fais | J’ai fait | Je faisais | Je ferai
| Je ferais | Que je fasse |
WHEN DO YOU USE IT?
The verb faire is used with sports, activities and weather to name but a few, and it is also used in many many expressions!
Faire la tête – To sulk.
Elle fait la tête – She is sulking.
Faire face à quelque chose – to deal with something.
Il faut faire face à cette situation difficile – We must deal with this difficult situation.
Faire le malin – To show off
Il faisait le malin devant ses amis – He was showing off in front of his friends.
Faire la cuisine – To cook
Ma mère fait la cuisine tous les soirs – My mother cooks every evening.

FRENCH LEAVING CERT REVISION COURSE – NOVEMBER
If you would be interested in attending one of our French Leaving Cert Revision courses, please follow the link below for more information. Our next course will be held on Saturday, the 2nd of November, in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. The Course begins at 1pm and ends at 5pm. The cost is €60 and includes a 30 page booklet with exclusive French Notes content. During our revision courses, students learn how to write opinion pieces, Diary entries and/or the narrative (récit), learn active listening methodology, practice speaking and reading French comprehensions.
