The Importance Of Verbs In French

French Notes has compiled a list of verbs for you to either study on your own, or for your teacher to teach in class. Verbs are an intrinsic component of language learning. Without verbs, there would be no proper sentences, and expression would be reduced to random words. We have gone through each of the papers, and taken the verbs used in their infinitive. It is noteworthy that a lot of the verbs are repeated every year.

Please make sure that you know your verbs in…

  • The present
  • Past
  • Future
  • Imperfect
  • Conditional tenses

As you can see from the table, reflexive verbs are very common, so you must get to grips with the reflexive or pronominal verbs, as they are sometimes called. Verbs with an asterix have slight changes to their spelling, and it is very important that you get to know these slight changes, as a verb is wrong if it is spelt incorrectly!

I have found that the best way of learning verbs is to make up sentences, using as many different subject pronouns as possible. Write out different sentences and then check our Grammar Section to see if you have spelt the verb correctly.

We have gone through the papers, and given these verbs alphabetically. Please note that the full version of these verbs runs to about 7 pages, and is available to subscribed members of the Teacher or Junior Cert subscriptions.
