A woman’s place in the home

• Selon l’article 41.2.1 de la Constitution Irlandaise, “L’État reconnaît que, par sa vie au foyer, la femme apporte à l’État un soutien sans lequel le bien commun ne peut être atteint” et que “L’État s’efforce, par conséquent, de veiller à ce que les mères ne soient pas obligées, en raison de nécessités économiques, de travailler en négligeant les devoirs au sein de leurs foyers.”

According to article 41.2.1 of the Irish Constitution,“The State recognises that by her life within the home, woman gives to the State a support without which the common good cannot be achieved.” And that “The State shall, therefore, endeavour to ensure that mothers shall not be obliged by economic necessity to engage in labour to the neglect of their duties in the home.”

• En Irlande nous avons de la chance que l’égalité existe entre les hommes et les femmes, mais je ne suis pas sûre que tout le monde soit d’accord.

In Ireland, we are lucky that equality exists between men and women but I am not sure that everyone agrees.

According to the minister of Justice, “If the Constitution is not looking to limit the place of a man, so it should not look to limit that of a woman either”
