Diary Entry Booklet 6

Did You Know…

Did you know that the diary entry is the most popular question in the Leaving Cert French paper? 90% of students answer the diary question. You will find it in Question 2 of the written section of the paper.

To clarify, it is a very popular choice among students, but students don’t always answer it well.  In short, it is always on the paper, but students do not always know how to go about answering it properly.

Firstly…

In order to  do well in the diary entry, you will need…

  • To be able to write well in several tenses including the present, past and future.
  • You will need to be able to write about your feelings and your reaction to the question being asked.

In this Diary Entry Booklet 6 you will find diary entries from:

  • 2016
  • 2017
  • 2018

Secondly…

The Diary Entry is a type of personal writing. It does not necessarily follow a structure, but you must write ‘Cher Journal’ to begin.

I  however, advise students to include the following in their diary entries…

  • Most importantly is an opening statement to address the scenario or question.
  • State what happened and how you are feeling as a result.
  • Say what you propose to do.
  • Mention who was there or were you on your own?
  • Similarly, If the diary entry gives a particular day or month, you must include this in your answer.
  • In conclusion, you must sign off your diary entry appropriately.

Each Diary Entry…

  • Is written in French and English.
  • Contains excellent phrases.
  • Provides you with useful vocabulary.
  • Gives you an insight into how to write in different tenses.
